Midwinter (II) - 2016
spray paint, xerox transfer and resin on wood panel
16 x 20 in.
In 2016, having recently returned from almost a decade of living abroad in a tropical climate, I was getting reacquainted with the cold and the dark of winter. Inspired partly by the stories of Hans Christian Andersen, I began a series of night walks in the cold, crisp winter air. Eventually I began making photographs of some of the plant life I encountered, seeking to capture, like a portrait, a singular characteristic or element of each tree, shrub or vine in it's winter death or dormancy.
The resulting images I printed via xerox and transferred to panels, encapsulating them in a layer of solid resin.
